School Sponsors make an annual commitment to a specific school. Your support impacts a specific group of students, you receive occasional correspondence from the school, and you are encouraged to visit Honduras for graduation in November.

You and Your Community Can Sponsor a School Together
Collective School Sponsorships allow individual supporters to pool their resources – often allowing L4L to invite new schools into the program. Whether it is a group of friends, a church congregation, a Rotary Club, or coworkers, your combined gifts can bring daily lunches to an entire school. Participants are directly connected to their school and can even receive correspondence from students and teachers at times.
Projects We Support
Lunches for Learning maintains a laser focus on providing lunches in school, because that is what keeps kids in school and helps them complete their education. Sponsors who travel to Honduras often identify additional needs, and we welcome projects that meet the following criteria.
- Kitchen construction, so mothers no longer have to carry cooked food on walks of up to 45 minutes to reach the school
- Latrine construction to improve sanitary conditions and provide basic dignity for students and teachers
- Roof repair or replacement, because damaged roofs prevent attendance during the rainy season
- Textbooks and learning tools that are not consistently provided by the Honduran Education Ministry in remote communities
FAQ
Where does the food come from?
All food is purchased in Honduras: rice, beans, and corn from Nacaome; milk and cooking oil from Tegucigalpa; sugar from Choluteca. The only exception is a daily chewable multivitamin sourced from Blessings International in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma.
What is the difference between a school sponsor and a giver?
Anyone who makes a gift to L4L is a giver. The term sponsor describes an individual or group that has made an annual, ongoing financial commitment. All gifts are fully tax-deductible. We are funded entirely through charitable giving and receive no government grants.
Is L4L a faith-based organization?
L4L is an independent 501(c)(3) and is not officially faith-based. Our supporters include church members across many denominations, non-denominational believers, and individuals with no church affiliation. This independence is intentional, as many corporate matching gift programs do not support faith-based organizations.
What are the requirements to become a teacher in Honduras?
A four-year university degree is required, similar to the U.S. process. In rural schools where one teacher serves all grade levels, students develop strong collaborative learning skills as the teacher moves between groups throughout the day.
How did L4L end up in this region of Honduras?
The Valle Department is where Anabel lived, the girl whose outstretched hand on a border road stopped Ron Hicks in his tracks and led him back with a mission. That is where L4L was born, and that is where it remains.
The Friends of Anabel
Our sponsors and givers are the backbone of Lunches for Learning. A commitment at any of the giving levels below qualifies the sponsoring individual, family, or organization for membership in the Friends of Anabel, the society of L4L sponsors. Your commitment has allowed L4L to grow from 1 school in 2005 to 49 schools today, with more than 2,000 children enjoying a healthy meal at school each day.
Student Sponsorship Levels
Because of efficiencies built into the L4L lunch distribution process, each student can be fed for an entire 10-month school year at only $150, just $12.50 per month. A Grade Level Sponsor provides the equivalent of lunches for one grade level. A Classroom Sponsor funds an entire classroom, which in many rural schools may include multiple grade levels under a single teacher.

School Sponsorship Levels
School Sponsors make an annual, recurring giving commitment to a specific school. Your name, or that of your organization or family, will appear on a permanent banner at the school. You will receive correspondence from students and are encouraged to travel to Honduras to visit. The gratitude you receive from the students, teachers, and parents is both immeasurable and gratifying.
